From my early years in grade school art has been in my life. Drawing dinosaurs and horses was what I really did best, but like most boys, baseball and basketball became much more important than art.During my adult working years drawing still crept into my life occasionally, and actually, in some of my jobs, but was always pretty much suppressed by what seemed to be more important duties.
Design, whether it is in architecture,
furniture, or landscapes, has always been where my interests have been.
Coupled with a love for plants, part of my education includes an
Associate Degree in Arboriculture, which included some landscape design
classes. This, however, was not something I could make a living with in
a small town in S.E. Oklahoma, so art still took a back seat to life.
It was not until I was in my mid 50's
that I actually started givingsome serious time to art. At the
invitation of a nurse at a local doctors office, who also had some
paintings hanging in the office, I joined a group that painted together
on Thursday evenings. I have painted ever since. I also found that there
were a lot of talented people who needed an outlet for their work. That
led to the opening of The Gallery at Wilburton by a group of fellow
artists, and to art being a major part of my life today.
